Goldfish is a mediation on issues surrounding mental health, sensory overload and distraction in the modern world.

Directed and choreographed by Charlotte Edmonds, the work features two rising artists, Aishwarya Raut (Rambert Dance Company) and Edwin Louis, and is set to an original score by Katya Richardson and Ryan Sullivan.

Influenced by research from Crawford Winlove (Neuroscientist at University of Exeter), the choreography has evolved from a live performance, Generation Goldfish, originally premiered with the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich,  into the digital work it is today. Charlotte Edmonds explores the metaphoric value, or lack thereof, of having the “attention span of a goldfish” by creating a physical and artistic response to the question of deteriorating mindfulness.

Through the medium of dance, the film is a testament for mental and emotional grounding in moments of sensory overload and how to mute the overwhelming noise.

The film has been made with the support of Arts Council England, and Bayerisches Staatsballett.

The film premiered with NOWNESS on 31st October 2022, and subsequently you can view the film on the Bayerisches Staatsballett, Rambert Company, Fact Magazine and Minute Shorts. The film is reached over 200,000 views across all platforms in the first month since it’s launch.

  • "I've done quite literally hundreds of projects but out of those hundreds, there is a handful that I really think sticks with me. I think my time working on Goldfish will be one of those"

    Ryan Sullivan, Sound Designer
