Choreographer Charlotte Edmonds expands discussion around dance in a new interview series featuring Holly Blakey, Julie Cunningham and Julia Cheng

Creating a space in which to engage with influential figures in the world of dance, choreographer and filmmaker Charlotte Edmonds unlocks the first three episodes from a new digital series, Cameo. Spotlighting lived experiences within the industry, the series enters into conversation with contemporary choreography talents Holly Blakey, Julie Cunningham and Julia Cheng, inviting intimate discussions that expand on their methods of working with movement.

With the intention to shed light on underrepresentation in senior positions, the conversations open up a dialogue among female and non-binary artists, taking an unflinching look into the world of dance from all angles. By laying the inner workings of the dance world bare, Cameo initiates important conversations through meaningful contributions, communicating lesser-acknowledged facets of the art form and the impact on those who move within its influence.

The launch of the Cameo live event series took place on Thursday, 19 May 2022 at Morley Gallery as part of Morley College’s ongoing Penny Lecture Series. Cameo’s first featured guest was choreographer, dance artist, and Artistic Director of Yorke Dance Project, Yolande Yorke-Edgell. Yorke-Edgell supported Charlotte Edmonds with her first opportunity in choreography, and she has her to thank for the leg up as an emerging artist. The conversation will mark nearly ten years since that moment.
